Saturday in Holbrook

On Saturday we went to Holbrook to watch Del's band play in "Battle of the Bands." There was a fair type of thing going on, and the kids had fun. Jack and Kenna rode a little train and played in a jump house.

Jack looks so happy. He had a really good time playing with Kenna.

Jack walking on grass with no shoes on...walking on real soft grass is a rarity. If you have a yard of grass, don't take it for granted!!!!

K's Violin

Yesterday when Kenna got home from school she cleaned her room, we both got our violins out and practiced for half an hour. She should be practicing more, but I don't want to over do it. She did good for her first practice - no squeaking at all....she's doing really well!
God I love my kid!

Kenna's New Violin

Most everyone knows by now, I've called everyone (I think) to tell them the exciting news....Kenna has joined an orchestra. I started in the 5th grade, so she'll be playing a year longer than me if she keeps it up through high school as I did.

This is not a "school" orchestra, though we practice and have concerts at the school. There is no funding for an organization of this magnitude which is sad. We have to pay to be a part of it, but the fond memories I have of being in an orchestra, I want Kenna to be able to experience the same thing.

So, we are officially "orch dorks" in the house! Yesterday was her first rehearsal, and they learned about the different parts, how to care for their instruments and other beginning types of things. I can't wait to drag my violin out and play with her!

I'll get better pics of her playing eventually, but these will have to do for now!!!!!

Kenna's first day of 4th grade - and a BDay cake

OK, since my birthday is so much more important than Kenna's first day of fourth grade, here's a picture of my birthday cake! (not really, blogger just put this picture first)

Kenna was actually embarrassed when I made her stop in the hall to take a picture. She wore her new black boots, new sparkley jeans, and a new Jonas Brothers T shirt....

She's been begging to wear these boots since my mother gave them to her LAST YEAR...but they were for fourth grade, so she had to wait!

Kenna has a very nice teacher this year. Actually, I don't really know that she's nice from personal experience, it's just what I heard.....

K also gets to sit next to her good friend who used to live across the street. I can't wait to hear how her day went!

Quick update

Nothing too exciting going on in our world lately...but here's a quick update for my mother who "needs" pictures....

Kenna playing air guitar

The ice cream man visited us the other day. Jack got a spongebob ice cream pop...it was pineapple sherbert (weird)

I got home from the store to discover this. Jack refuses to put his feet on the peddles of his bike to ride it, he pushes himself along with his feet instead. Mark taped his feet to the peddles! It worked for a few minutes, then he went back to his old ways....at least we tried?

Kenna's trip to the valley

Mark had to go to the valley today to get something done to some part (a rocket booster? lol) for the truck today. Kenna went with him. She swam in the hotel pool for two hours, ate Greek food, had her first taste of lamb (she liked it) and ice cream. She must have been worn out!!!

Medieval Mayhem

This morning Kenna Jack and I went to the local "Renaissance fair." I am using this term loosely, because it wasn't all that great. I suppose for the free tickets I acquired it was worth it, but definitely not worth paying for. The kids had fun (for only 30 minutes) so I reckon it was worth the free admission.

Captain Jack Sparrow put his hat on our Jack - Jack wasn't entirely sure about what to think of this pirate!

Kenna met the Queen and her court....I have to say this is the first time I've seen royalty with a tattoo on their chest.....yeah...uh, not really sure what to say about that....

The Queen gave Kenna a strand of pearls, and a blue sapphire....

Kenna spent her $2 on a bracelet. She got to pick out the beads herself.

Jack was given a piece of gold from Captain Jack, and here he is biting it to make sure it's real....

Lowe's workshop for kids

This morning I took the kids to Lowe's. They were having a workshop for kids to build a treasure chest. I am pretty sure they both had a good time. The treasure chests we built came out okay, but they weren't the easiest in the world to construct.

Here is the "set up"

Jack had a fantastic time hammering. I put the nails in and he hammered, all while I prayed I wouldn't get my hands hammered!

Kenna hard at work

Taking a break for a cheesy smile

my new baby and a day at the park

Welcome home Mr. Pineapple!
(the name is a work in progress)

I found my new baby today at the pet store. He is a hand fed cockatiel and I instantly fell in love with him. After a little convincing, Mark okay-ed my early BDay present.

The family decided to go to the park and eat dinner. We grilled hot dogs, brats, and burgers while the kiddos played.
